It is difficult to imagine there will be no further adventures of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, their children, other family members and servants set in and around their Yorkshire country estate, Downton Abbey (Highclere Castle).
When it was announced almost a year ago that Series 6 would be the final one for the immensely popular show there was a social media outcry. Surely, people said, more can be done. But, alas, the final season did arrive. It did play out. And, then … it was gone.
I believe it is truly difficult to produce a final season for a series that is as admired as Downton to satisfy everyone.
That said, I am not sure that I have ever had a final season tie up all the loose ends that occurred during the run of the series to my satisfaction. Leave it to creator, writer and executive producer Julian Alexander Kitchener-Fellowes, Baron Fellowes of West Stafford, to tie it all up with a nice big bow.
I will not go into anything regarding what takes place in these last eight regular episodes plus the Christmas special. I will say that, as a long-time fan, I was extremely pleased with how everything turned out. I do not think it could have been any better.
There were, interestingly, ample new twists and turns introduced that even got resolved.
My highest compliments and a huge thank you to all the performers. It could easily be seen that each and every one of them put their heart and soul into this final year of production.
If you are a fan, you will not be disappointed with Series 6.
Well, other than the fact that there will be no more seasons to look forward to and enjoy. Highly recommended.
Over For Now.
